Sony Dax Technology Center Activities

Based in the south west of France, Sony’s, Dax Tec factory produces not only VHS and 8mm cassettes for European market, but also Betacam SP professional cassettes for Europe, North and South America.

This plant is split in 2 big units:

1- The Magnetic Tape Unit where the main process steps are:

• Mixing (production of magnetic & Back Coating paints),

• Coating (Coating of the paint on a base film),

• Calendaring (Surface treatment which finishes and optimises the tape properties),

• Slitting (cutting the jumbo rolls of magnetic tape in order to obtain pancakes).
   

2- The Cassette Unit can be divided into the following processes:

• Winding (winding tape pancakes into empty cassette shells),

• Packaging (final products are ready to be delivered to customers).
   

Zone QA Activity :

The “European Zone for Quality” is also based at DAX and has the responsibility to ensure that all Sony Recording Media products sold in Europe are in accordance with the European specification and legislation in regards of Quality, Environment and Safety.
